Critical Health Literacy of Students during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Session Overview:

In this presentation from the 2020 GovComms Festival, Professor ThomasAbelfrom the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine and Christiane Stock, Professor at CharitèBerlin, discuss the theory behind Critical Health Literacy and the role it plays in the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a pandemic, it is critical that citizens use reason-based thinking to help break through the noise of polarised commentary and fake news. Critical Health Literacy allows you to do this. It helps us understand the social problems that the pandemic has bought us and assists in solving these problems by using health information.

Thomas and Christianewill use this presentation to not only take a deep dive into the fundamentals of Critical Health Literacy itself but also to present you with their research which they found when they operationalised this theory with university students from Switzerland and Germany earlier this year.
