The changes of Vietnamese Government in public affairs

Session Overview:

In this session from the 2020 GovComms Festival, we hear from Dr. Long Nguyen, Lecturer of Professional Communication in the School of Communication & Design (SCD) at RMIT University Vietnam.

Dr. Nguyen outlines the Vietnamese Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has been praised as one of the best in the world.

He describes the context of Vietnamese public communication in the past, and how communication practices changed at the beginning of the pandemic. He examines some of the techniques Vietnam used to combat the pandemic, including hotlines, apps, music, chatbots, and websites.

Dr. Nguyen also explains how the Vietnamese government controlled the spread of fake news, rumors, and misinformation about the pandemic.

Dr. Nguyen then explains the results of this communication campaign by the Vietnamese government, including statistics about the success of Vietnam’s effort to contain COVID-19. According to a survey, 93% of Vietnamese people believe the government responded “very” or “somewhat” well to the pandemic.

After watching this video, you will be able to:

  • Understand an example of an effective communications campaign to contain COVID-19.
  • Get inspiration from a successful and innovative communications campaign.
  • Learn more about the Vietnamese experience of COVID-19.
