Session Overview:

In this session from the 2020 GovComms Festival, we hear from the Chairman of AMEC and the CEO of CARMA, Richard Bagnall.

Richard explains how and why media measurement has become more complex with the advent of digital technologies like the internet and social media.

Richard talks about how measurement and evaluation was done in the past, and what some of the positive changes have been. He also explores how COVID-19 has impacted measurement online.

Richard says that the pandemic has changed the underlying assumptions that we have about our audience. Because COVID-19 has dramatically changed how we use media, Richard argues that we should dramatically change how we monitor our media.

Richard explains why we need to be more nimble and more responsive to rapidly changing events. We need to understand the reputation of our organisations online. We also need to use automation to pick up meaningful data, without relying on it to extract key insights.

Richard also discusses the importance of going beyond simple numbers, charts and dashboards in your measurement strategy.

After watching this video, you will be able to:

  • Understand the changing landscape of measurement, especially in the context of COVID-19.
  • Tell a meaningful measurement story that goes beyond simple data reporting.
